Note

This is a selected component of the project Combat Veterans: Embracing the Stories of War. For more details on the project, including design process and methodologies, please refer to that post.

To understand and experience (feel) the way in which some may have entered the service and how that experience shapes their perceptions and experiences of being a veteran, an immersive recreation was the solution. The idea was to show, and feel, the sense of anticipation, having no control of one’s outcome, feelings of unfairness.

I filmed and produced a “live” TV broadcast of the draft. It was modeled from, and inspired by, actual tv footage of the Vietnam draft by storyboarding a version for the class, directing, filming and editing a draft lottery video broadcast.
